Oh happy day! I am ecstatic to announce that Crush Your Week: The Complete Guide To Designing An Intentional Weekly Routine is here at last! If you’ve been anxiously waiting to snag a copy, today’s the day! Head here to learn more.
Getting organized and finding time for your passions and dreams is challenging. I totally get it! A few years ago, I found myself working in a fast-paced job where there were way more to-dos than time to complete them. On the side, I had a growing blog that I was pouring hours into plus a small business that required so much attention and energy. I was also a newbie homeowner, wishing for more time to dedicate to fixing up our little house. And, like you, I had a never-ending list of household chores to do and errands to run.
I felt like I was on a hamster wheel that wouldn’t stop. Life was hectic and I was tired of it. Since I’ve always had a knack for creating systems, I set out to create a system for designing a weekly routine that didn’t leave room for anything to fall through the cracks.
After much trial and error, I found a system that worked! I was more focused, I stopped forgetting things and I no longer felt like I needed to neglect one area of my life to thrive in another. Despite life being crazy, I had hit my stride and found a way to devote time to everything, including my own wellbeing and my biggest goals.
I now follow a weekly routine that gives me so much peace of mind. I have even more things going on in my life than I did a few years ago, but it doesn’t feel nearly as hectic as it used to because I’m now in control of my time. And let me tell you, it’s an amazing feeling!
I’ve poured my entire process for designing a weekly routine into my new ebook, Crush Your Week: The Complete Guide For Designing An Intentional Weekly Routine. This isn’t your standard book that you skim and forget about, this is an action guide that will take you through the entire step by step process for creating a weekly routine. It’s filled with worksheets and exercises to help you maximize your time so you can cut out the stress, fit in all of your responsibilities and spend more time on your biggest goals and priorities.
Let’s make 2017 the year we say goodbye to the chaos and take control of our time! I just know you can get things organized and crush your week!
I’ve been making schedules for a really long time. I remember how excited I was to get our own planners in middle school and how much I loved to color code my assignments (yes, I am a huge nerd!). That love for planning grew stronger in high school and college, when I was involved in so many classes and extracurriculars that using my time wisely became a necessity if I wanted to fit it all in.
Any time I feel overwhelmed or stressed out about all of the things I have going on, I turn to planning. As an adult, I’ve gotten even better at creating schedules and routines. Now, not only do I find creative ways to fit a lot of things in my day, but I have also learned the value of setting boundaries and saying ‘no’ sometimes.
A Peek At My Current Weekly Routine
I’ve found that focusing on creating an intentional plan for my week is the best way to stay organized. I think a week works so well because there’s room to fit in all of your personal and professional priorities versus looking at a single day, when you just don’t have time to cram everything in. A week is a short enough period of time to maintain focus. And it repeats often which is helpful for forming routines and habits.
I thought it might be helpful to share what my weekly routine currently looks like. Obviously we all have unique lives so your week probably won’t look anything like mine. But I do hope it will inspire you to be more intentional with how you use your time, rather than drifting from day to day reacting to the world around you. Here’s an example of what my weekly schedule looks like right now:
WEEKDAYS:
6:00 am – Morning routine
7:00 am – Work on book or blog
8:00 am – Work
12:00 pm – Lunch and exercise or personal development activities
1:00 pm – Work
5:00 pm – Buffer time after work, time to transition (I leave this hour open so I have buffer time if I stay a little late at work or need to run a quick errand on the way home. I also like having this time to change out of work clothes and relax a bit before I dive into my evening activities.)
6:00 pm – Work at husband’s business or run errands or blogging
8:00 – Dinner and cleaning
9:00 – Family time or free time
10:00 – Bedtime routine
11:00 – Sleep
SATURDAYS
8:00 am – Morning routine
9:00 am – Laundry and errands or cleaning
11:00 am – House projects or social/fun weekend activities or family/free time
10:00 pm – Bedtime routine
11:00 pm – Sleep
SUNDAYS
8:00 am – Morning routine
9:00 am – Free time
3:00 pm – Blogging or freelance work
6:00 pm – Sort mail or update budget or clean up email inbox
7:00 pm – Dinner and meal planning
8:00 pm – Me time
10:00 pm – Bedtime routine
11:00 pm – Sleep
The thought of following a schedule every single day might not appeal to you, but I believe there is freedom within structure. The more you design your schedule, the more intentional you will be with your time. If you don’t put a plan in place, you will struggle to use your time wisely.
Now, do I follow this weekly routine perfectly every week? Of course not! But I’ve created strategies for making adjustments and being flexible as life happens. Having an intentional routine in place gives me a framework to shoot for every day. And it ensures I have enough time devoted to everything on my to-do list.
So when I spend Saturday bumming around, I have the peace of mind of knowing that I have plenty of time built into my week to do everything I need to. That means no more feeling guilty for relaxing when I feel like I should be doing something more productive.
