I don’t know about you, but I have A LOT of organizing projects on tap for this year. Part of that comes with the territory of moving last fall and still figuring out organizing systems that work in our new house, but a huge part of my need to organize is due to the sheer amount of stuff we’ve accumulated.
I have a tendency to nerd out about organizing things into pretty containers with perfect labels, but I’m going to try to keep reminding myself that organized clutter is still clutter. It’s time to get rid of some of this stuff! There are boxes and boxes of things we have yet to unpack so I know there is plenty that we don’t need and won’t miss when it’s gone.
I’m planning to declutter my way through every room, every closet and every drawer in our house this year. It sounds like a big task, but my goal is to focus on one small area every weekend.
To prepare for purging all the things, I whipped up some decluttering signs and wanted to share the free printable with you so you can use them when you’re decluttering your own home this year.

I find it helpful to designate boxes for sorting items as I’m decluttering a space. When I’m cleaning out my closet, for example, it’s nice to have boxes handy for clothing to donate, clothing to sell online or at garage sale and clothing like ratty socks that just need to be thrown in the trash.
You’re welcome to download these decluttering signs! Print them out and attach them to boxes, laundry baskets or other containers. I was using cute storage bins to sort my clothing in these photos, but it occurred to me that old diaper boxes would be perfect for this use!

This set of decluttering signs includes:
- KEEP – items to keep that need to be put away
- DONATE – items to donate to the local thrift store
- SELL – items to consign, list online or sell at a garage sale
- TRASH – items for the garbage
- RETURN – purchased and borrowed items to return
- RELOCATE – items to keep that need to be put away in another area of the house
I laminated my signs so they are durable enough to use over and over again. I’ll file them away and be able to easily pull them out whenever I’m beginning a decluttering project. My laminator comes in so handy for laminating signs and printables that I can use over and over again. I have this laminator and it’s super inexpensive but works great! (See how I laminate labels in this post.)
As I dive into organization projects in our home this year, I’m going to do my best to remind myself that organized clutter is still clutter. Here’s to a year of getting rid of the extra stuff that we don’t need or love!
What area of your home are you decluttering next?
