Our Front Room & Small Entryway 2 Years Later (with source list)

Our front room & small entryway started off with stained beige carpet & bright yellow walls. fast forward 2 years and it looks like a completely different space! today I’m sharing lots of before & afters along with all the sources.

Our small entryway/front room area has come so far in the past two years! Two summers ago I was painting the navy entryway wall, last summer I was ripping up the carpet and painting over the yellow walls, and just last week I was finishing painting the doors and trim.

I’m so glad I have before pictures because I’d almost forgotten just how far this room has come. I highly recommend you take pictures before, during, and after home projects because it’s so easy to forget how much work you’ve really done to a space!

I had no idea what to do with this room when we bought our house 2 1/2 years ago, but it’s slowly found a purpose as our home office/playroom/craft storage/sitting space/entryway. A very multifunctional space ;). It was a year ago this week that I shared a blog post with my plans for this front room and it’s taken me a while to figure out a layout and style, but here we are a year later with a room that feels (mostly) complete!

Creating a home takes time so don’t ever let Instagrammers and HGTV make you feel like you need to do an entire room makeover in a weekend!

Keep reading for lots of before and afters of this front room/entryway along with sources for all of the furniture, decor, and paint colors you see.

Our Small Entryway

We don’t have much of an entryway, it’s really just this little hallway that leads from the front & garage doors to the back half of the house.

This is the first space in the house to get a makeover two years ago and the navy board and batten is still one of my favorite projects! My goal was to add function to this small entry by creating a drop zone for shoes, coats, hats, keys, mail, etc.

And I more recently replaced the flooring, updated the trim, and painted the doors. It feels like a totally new space now!

The Front Room

It was a year ago this week that I started working on transforming this yellow into a space with purpose. I loved the idea of this extra room when we bought the house but I had no idea what we’d use it for.

Without a purpose, this room became the dumping ground for misfit furniture and half-unpacked moving boxes. It was time to clear out the clutter and do something with this awesome room!

Fresh paint, a beautiful rug, eye-catching artwork and a few furniture pieces took this space from blah beige to modern. Oh, and we can’t forget how much better the new light fixture looks!

My Home Office Nook (aka my “corner office”)

Last summer I started furnishing this room by focusing on one little corner that would become my home office. Between blogging and working from home occasionally (and turns out all the time during a pandemic!), I really wanted to carve out a small workspace for myself.

With the front door opening right up into this room, I focused on creating a beautiful office nook that would look pretty to guests and had storage to keep my office supplies tucked out of sight.

This small home office has gotten so much use in 2020! It’s gone mostly unchanged because it really functions well for me. Creating this office nook was the catalyst for furnishing and styling the rest of the room.
