Our homeownership story began in the fall of 2014 when my husband, David, and I bought our first home in small town Iowa. That small ranch house made me a homeowner for the first time, gave me a place to experiment with decorating and introduced me to my love of all things home.
We sold that house and moved to the suburbs of Des Moines, Iowa in the fall of 2017 just a couple weeks before our daughter, Chloe, was born.
I’ve always sworn I would never live in the suburbs where all the houses look alike, but here I am. We found a newer house in a newer neighborhood where the houses are all cohesive (aka almost alike), but no two are exactly the same. I fell in love with the exterior charm and it has a great open floor plan with plenty of space for our growing family, but the builder-grade interior leaves a lot to be desired. I’m slowly working to banish all of the bland beige and boring light fixtures from this home and infuse the place with color and character.
