Friends, I’m so proud to show off our organized TV stand today! This project has long been on my to-do list and it turned out ah-mazing (if I do say so myself ;).
My goals for this project were to brighten up our TV stand, organize video games and hide media clutter. I achieved all three goals with a bit of paint and new storage boxes! A quick tutorial of the actual furniture makeover will be coming to the blog soon. But today I want to tell you all about my FAVORITE part – how I organized everything!

The Before
Here’s what our TV stand looked like at Christmas time. The stand was a dark wood and we were using a couple dark brown storage baskets to organize things. You can’t really see in this picture (the greenery was strategically hiding the mess), but the baskets took up two sections of the tiered TV stand and the other two sections just had random gaming systems and things piled up on them.
Things were definitely not organized, and I was craving something lighter in our living room. All of that dark brown plus the large black TV felt sort of like a black hole, especially since it sits in front of our picture window.
The brown baskets helped contain some of the mess, but they just weren’t the right size to neatly stack video games. And there just wasn’t enough room for everything, meaning I had several boxed DVD sets stashed elsewhere.
Since our TV stand doesn’t have built-in storage, I knew I needed a better solution to hide away the mess of games, controllers and cords. With open baskets and things sitting out on open shelves, our new puppy was getting into everything! I needed a pretty organizing solution to keep everything contained.
New Storage Boxes
I discovered the most perfect storage boxes for this project – Pop N’ Store Boxes! They are durable and look absolutely beautiful, with their metal corners and textured exterior. And they get major bonus points for being collapsable and stackable! Take a look at the next few photos to see how these boxes are designed to fold flat – perfect for storing when not in use.
Of course, no organization project is complete without pretty labels! I ordered these adhesive bookplate labels and am so happy with how well they match the silver corners of the Pop N’ Store boxes. It only took a couple minutes to design the blue labels, print them on cardstock and tuck them inside the bookplates.
How I Organized Everything
I used a variety of Pop N’ Store storage box sizes to organize video games, movies, our Nintendo Classic, controllers, headsets and other media/gaming accessories.
My husband’s headsets and spare controllers fit nicely inside a medium square box. It’s awesome to have a place to stash all of these! David requested that all of his gaming gear remain easy to access, and these storage boxes are the ticket. The labels make it easy to find what he’s looking for, and he can quickly pull out a box and remove the lid. Having lids on everything also means his precious gaming things stay out of reach of our curious puppy ;).
I used two long DVD storage boxes, one for David’s current video game collection and the other for our DVDs. We try to keep our collections of these fairly small, so two boxes give us just the right amount of space.
Quick Tip: If you want to organize video games and have some that your family no longer plays, see if any area video game stores will give you cash or store credit for your old games. Making a bit of money is always a bonus when you’re clearing out clutter!
Our Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch sit out in the open on the TV stand shelves. With all of the bright white storage boxes surrounding them, you barely even notice they’re there! The PS4 is sitting up on top of a box, and the Switch is turned sideways but is easy to pull out when it’s time to play.
Our other current system is the Nintendo Classic, which is very small. I left all of the cords and controllers connected to the system and it fits nicely inside a document box. This makes it easy to pull out and plug in on the occasional weekend, while keeping it out of sight the rest of the time.
Just look at how neatly these boxes fit on our shelves! I can’t stop staring at those pretty white boxes! The shallow document box on the top shelf is actually empty, I just used it to raise up our PS4 so it blends in.
Here’s the other half of our TV stand, with the medium box holding our controllers and headsets. I’m very excited about the large mega size box on the bottom shelf because it holds absolutely nothing! I labeled it “accessories” and now it’s ready to hold future gaming items.
And here’s a final look at the TV stand makeover! This was such a great way to organize video games and all the accessories that go with them. I’m so pleased with the quality of the Pop N’ Store boxes, and the various sizes work well in many spaces.
Whether you want to organize video games or some other aspect of your home, storage boxes are a great tool. They easily stack on shelves, fit inside drawers and slide under beds. And pretty ones like these are also fair game to stack and leave out in the open!
If your TV stand, movie collection or video game stash needs organizing, set aside an hour to work on it. It really is amazing how little time small organization projects can take, yet they can have such a big impact! Our TV stand is much prettier and more functional thanks to the 30 minutes I spent organizing it. This project is a good reminder that even the small projects count!
I’ll be back soon to share the details of how I transformed our old TV stand into a beautiful piece. Stay tuned!
Happy organizing!
